earn your degree

Its been months since you earn your degree, and it didnt take long before you would have your first job. You did a good job in turning your resume into an effective (marketing) tool, yet youre wondering about your career. Can your first job be your last? Its possible, but it will depend on a number of factors. Your workmates might grow on you, such as you cant imagine working with other people. Youll learn other skills, which will help you promote to a higher position. You dont mind having more responsibilities, as this puts you in a better position. You believe that you have found your second home (after working in the same company for a few years). These are probable questions, even hypothetical ones. Youre basically a newbie, so its natural to think about these things. It will also be right to assess yourself at this point.Do you have the necessary skills to take you to the next level? Lets have a lookTechnology requires you to know certain skills. It doesnt refer to the ability to locate the right sites (for a particular topic) in minutes, even the knack for navigating the Internet jungle in a short span of time. A solid grasp of the Microsoft programs is bedrngnis what this is all about. Its not about social media as well. Information technology (IT) has been a fast-growing field these past ten years, and saturation wont happen anytime soon. You might need to attend a course in programming, even learn the basics of coding. Search engine marketing (SEM) is turning into an important field as well. You can look at it as another way of having fun, as there wont be any pressure to learn new information. (And it could be better in such a situation.) You can also think of it as investing in your future. You must remember that learning is a never-ending experience. You sighed with relief after receiving your degree, and you were faced with the option of finding a job or pursuing another degree. It will be possible to do both, but you didnt figure out what it really was. You can go back to the university, but there are other ways. Enroll in a training course. Seize the volunteer opportunity. It wont be a waste of time to learn a foreign language, as theres a good chance of working with a foreign colleague (or deal with a foreign client). This can be make-or-break for job applicants, but you would be lucky.Dont underestimate the soft skills. You prize your individuality, but you figure out early that it wont be an asset in the company. Its rather teamwork, where you must know your role and responsibilities well enough. Its not about projecting a professional attitude, as you keep a cool composure during challenging times. You must be able to deal with different kinds of people, as some of your workmates may not get to you. There will be times when you have to do what you dont really want to do, but it shouldnt be an issue in the workplace. Dont forget office politics.Youre smart enough to suggest one or two. Do tell us.
